And, if it’s still there? (agave americana), 2019- present
Documentation of ongoing research on the agave americana plant, begun in Aktur, Turkey in May 2019, where I discovered a group of agave stems cut by local gardeners lying on top of a garbage pile. After attempting to deliver them to Paris unsuccessfully, I continued to research the plant and discovered that they are cut by gardeners all over Europe. Persistent in my search to “save” or collect the “limbs” of these fascinating, yet mutilated plants, I was able to do so in November 2019 along the Côte d’Azur, thanks to the generosity of many local gardeners. I have preserved these agave stems and am currently working on a series of sculptures and installations that incorporate them.
